Jim Kenefick

Jim is an organizational consultant and executive coach known for his presence, creativity, and ability to create breakthroughs with clients in increasing leadership capacity, executive presence and the ability to create committed, collaborative relationships. His strategic advisory services are focused on creating the conversations and structures required to achieve executive alignment on strategy and purpose, sustainable shifts in culture, and the authentic and effective expression of leadership. Jim is passionate about what we make possible when we recognize our default ways of organizing and leading, and then commit to a new level of engagement and performance made possible by purpose.

Known for a particular ability to connect with creative leaders and design professionals, Jim has worked with senior executives and emerging leaders from a variety of companies including Gap, Old Navy, Comcast, MTV, Harris Corp., Nickelodeon, Univision, Turner Broadcasting, Goldman Sachs, The Hetrick-Martin Institute, California State University, NYU Stern School of Business, Rare Environmental Conservation and several small firms and consultancies.

A committed advocate of community and reconciliation, Jim is currently Chief Steward of the Mastery Foundation School for Leadership, which trains grass-roots community leaders in Transformational Leadership in service of healing past divisions and creating new futures in Northern Ireland and the Middle East. Jim also serves as a Mastery Foundation faculty member and coach, and has revolutionized the School’s approach to using practicums and coaching for leadership development in cohorts representing clergy, law enforcement, business, healthcare, government, education and community organizing.

Over the course of his career, Jim has contributed to the work of several management thought-leaders including Tom Peters, William Bridges, and Peter Block. He has also been a guest lecturer at Baruch College, California State University and University of San Francisco. Jim designed the award-winning online programs High Impact Hiring and Capturing Brand You and co-authored the opening chapter in Facilitating Group Communication: Innovations and Applications with Natural Groups, 2nd Ed..

Early in his career, Jim was an internal consultant focused on designing and leading leadership development and organizational transformational programs at the American Management Association and Sotheby’s. He then moved to Ninth House Network, where his responsibilities included content acquisition, development, and design of high-quality leadership development content across multiple platforms.  As part of the Strategic Change consulting team at Gap, Inc., his clients included the senior executives and design teams of Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic.

Jim earned his M.A. in Social and Organizational Psychology from Columbia University Teachers College and his B.A. in Organizational Development from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  He is certified in PDI’s Profilor, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Firo-B. Jim also holds an RYT-200 certification in hatha yoga.
